The new year and what it is bringing to the table

I am sorry this blog is later than I wanted but like everyone else we have been sick for a few weeks now. This past week we finally got back in the routine of attending our dance class weekly and just doing our daily chores/assignments.

Last week I read in a group I am in about a lady setting herself goals this year to include learning something new every month and it got me thinking about my own goals. I always have some to start off the new year and many I get accomplished but when it comes to my homestead life I have realized looking back, some of those goals don't get done for reasons. This year I am determined to learn something new every month. They might get out of order but I am going to do it to include finally learning to pressure can. I have said I would for 3 years now and it is time to just take the leap. I am also finally going to make a loaf of sourdough bread because it has been started for a while now and it is time to just start.

This year's weather is already throwing us for a loop so we are having to be smart. I regret not having more of a garden last year and not having more food security, so this year even with our cold weather I am finding ways. I am about to start seeds inside, to include extra to sell at the farm stand. I plan on using more foods I do have in different preserving techniques. So less just go to the animals. The other day I cooked up a huge bag of spinach before it went bad and froze it in containers. I dehydrated a huge amount of mushrooms to get a quart worth to use later in different things. Today I am making chicken broth for soups and things over the next few weeks out of a rotisserie chicken that needs to be used with a few veggie scraps.

We are about to start our first round of chicken eggs in the incubator. We are all pretty excited about this because it means we are growing. We finally got our rooster last year in hopes to reach this goal and now we are about to do it. We are reading a lot on it daily and getting tips, tricks and what is going to be the best way to be successful. Depending on how we do we also might be selling some of them as well at the farm stand.

Overall we are excited to see what 2024 has in store for us here on our tiny little piece of land and we are excited to share this journey with all of you. You can look forward to more blog shares, more post throughout the week on our social media and much more. Follow along with us on our journey as we are very excited to share it all with you.

Happy 1st month of 2024!
